Ordos, Justification, and the Federal Vision
category: Uncategorized
Worldviews are an amazing thing. As I am thinking the FV stuff more thoroughly I am realizing more and more kind of how I arrived on its shores and where the divergence from some aspects of traditional Reformed thought are coming from. For example, when I was in college I was able to make the ordo salutis the Gospel. For those that want to think that “I”, or any FV person, is denying the Gospel of grace, please read those last words. I still believe that I was justified and that God was rich in mercy towards me, despite all of my doctrinal self-righteousness, treating it like circumcision, and the arrogance of my ways. About four years ago I remember making a comment to my friend, “Yea, I just don’t see Jesus running around and preaching an ordo salutis.” Well, lo and behold, those words are coming home to roost. As I am picking up on the nuancing more and more I realize that the anti-crowd need a very strict ordo. If their is any melding of certain fields, then they think the Gospel is being fudge with. Note, however, I believe they are wrong on what the Gospel is.
The Gospel is about Jesus. The fact that he is Lord of all. It is not about how an individual is made right before God, although, again, the fruit of the Gospel is our justification.
